The Yoga Mat Reviewed

The Yoga Mat

The yoga mat is a key accessory with exploring to better your yoga experience. There is no perfect yoga mat but there are some good yoga mats. The yoga mat will never meet every one of your needs and expectations. I must start off by saying there is no perfect yoga mat but there are some good yoga mats. The yoga mat will never meet every one of your needs and expectations. If there is ever one, that means I have not found it yet and there will be an article of best yoga mat here. Until then, you rate the pros and cons of each mat and find one or two that are the most suitable for you.

Most of the yogis have at least a few yoga mats. I have tried out many yoga mats and I own 2 of my favorites and many that are hiding in my closet. I was once told by one of my teachers that a good yoga mat transforms your practice. I could not grab hold of that statement and that was when I was still using those unknown or even some of the known yoga mats. Now that I have tried the good yoga mats, I will never go back to those not-so-good mats (or mats that are not suitable for me) that are hiding in my closet. It is worth it to spend a little bit of money for a good yoga mat if you are serious in your yoga practice and want to get deeper into the postures. A good mat does not have to cost a huge damage in your wallet and I certainly don’t believe in paying over $100 for a good mat.

There are many factors to decide what is a good yoga mat for you. These are the questions you should ask yourself when you are deciding a yoga mat:

•   Are you practicing heated yoga?
•   Do you sweat a TON in your practice?
•   Is cushioning important to you?
•   Do you prefer an eco-friendly material?

I generally practice heated yoga but I sometime do go to non-heated yoga. I often have sweaty palms when practicing non-heated yoga, and I sweat a TON when I practice heated yoga. Good grip is very important factor to me when I choose a yoga mat to practice heated yoga. I need a yoga mat can accommodate both of my yoga practices. Cushioning was an important factor to me due to a bad knee but my knees are becoming less of an issue. I am either more aware of my body to know how to align my body, or daily practice of yoga has strengthened my knees. I think it is both and I am definitely not complaining about it.

The Yoga Mat Review: Lululemon Vs Jade

My 2 favorites yoga mats are the Lululemon’s reversible 5mm yoga mat and Jade’s harmony yoga mat. These mats have open-cell technology which means it is moisture-permeable. Yoga mats with open-cell technology is my recommendation for any heated yoga as it absorbs sweat easily, so the surface of the yoga mat is dry and non-slippery for your practice. Regular washing of yoga mats is needed and recommended no matter what yoga mats you use. Regardless the sweat, just imagine the surface where you lay out your yoga mat. It can be worse than the sweat on your yoga mat. Some may like to use a yoga towel on their yoga mats while practicing to reduce the frequency of washing, but I am not a big fan of yoga towel. For some reasons, it can never stay tightly on my yoga mat during my practice. If you like to use yoga towel on your yoga mat, spray a little of water on the towel helps to provide a better grip.

I enjoy keeping my Lululemon and Jade yoga mats clean. I wipe them off with a wet towel after each practice when I get home and let them dry before I roll them up. I often wash it once a week if I practice yoga every day.

Washing the yoga mats is an easy task. You could follow these steps:

•   Fill the bathtub with enough warm water
•   Squeeze a few drops of organic body or hand soups into the bathtub
•   Submerge the yoga mats in there for 10-20 minutes
•   Rinse the yoga mats
•   Hang them to airdry
